A Scorecard on Wall Street's Legal Troubles

Print comment Post Comments
"Two years after the economic meltdown began, investigations of Wall Street’s role in the financial transactions at the heart of it are picking up steam. Sorting out the causes of an economic calamity from its effects is difficult because it requires digging through mountains of documents and transactions to figure out whether any firm or individual violated the law, so we should not be surprised that it has taken more than a year for the investigations to get moving. As word of these investigations has surfaced, Wall Street firms are scrambling to assess their potential liability and how cases might affect their business going forward. Add to that the financial regulatory legislation pending on Capitol Hill, and it is a time of great uncertainty for the financial markets. While it is impossible to know for certain where any of the investigations will lead, White Collar Watch can at this point give a scorecard of where they appear to be headed."
