A GOOD SPAM IS HARD TO FIND

Montreal spammer Adam Guerbuez hasn't a care in the world. Despite being ordered to pay a $873 million fine, Guerbuez is lapping up the attention.

In November 2008, Guerbuez was convicted by a US court of spamming over four million messages on Facebook. He allegedly used a phishing attack and botnet to retrieve user passwords and generate the viral spread of his messages. The spam was of the usual fare: porn, weed, and penis enlargement. The court ordered Guerbuez to pay the hefty fine which became the largest-ever payout under US federal antispam law -- a ruling that was upheld last week by Quebec Superior Court.

But having filed for bankruptcy, Guerbuez told The Star he doesn't have to pay Facebook a cent. In the meantime, he's enjoying the media attention.

"The truth about this actually is that it's only helped me to become more of a public figure. It's been plenty of free publicity," he bragged. On his blog -- which features him holding a cigar above the pimp mantra "It ain't easy." -- he boasted his entry in the Guinness Book of World Records, living it up in high-end restaurants, and putting a hologram of his head in a friggin' trophy.

In case you were wondering, he claims to be inundated with media requests and hopes to turn his story into a book or a movie. "I look forward to some solid press as history has been made, yet once again," he wrote after the decision.

With arrogance like that, this guy's going to make a fortune.
