Microsoft Uses Apple's Techniques to Battle Google

Looks like Apple (AAPL) isn't the only one acquiring restaurant reviews and using social networking content to battle Google (GOOG).

Microsoft (MSFT) has forged a partnership with Yelp (YELP) to fortify its search engine battalion against the Google Empire. This partnership will bring Yelp’s local content and reviews to Bing’s Local search pages.

This is the fourth partnership announced recently, as Bing continues to prove just how serious it is about taking on Google.

This month, Bing announced another partnership with Qwiki, a platform that creates quick, interactive, multimedia presentations of information. Microsoft also announced its partnership with Encyclopedia Britannica, which will provide answers from Britannica Online in the search results pages of Bing. Last but not least, Bing’s integration of Facebook (FB) -- which also got intimate with iOS 6 -- will be a direct answer to Google’s merger of search results and Google+.

Yelp’s content, such as review snippets, photos, business information, and more will all be available to Bing users. “Powered by Yelp” tags will begin appearing today, and results should begin a US rollout in a few weeks.
