Microsoft Gets a Little Lewd on Twitter

Print comment Post Comments

Recently, Microsoft (MSFT) has been trying to get back into relevancy by recruiting the best young minds to be interns. They have also been up to no good on Twitter.

But if you'll remember, Microsoft is no stranger to that.

Right after the earthquake and tsunami in Japan, relief efforts sprang up from everywhere to assist those in need. For every Bing retweet, the search engine would donate $1 to earthquake victims.

After some chastising retweets that deemed the charitable effort as nothing more than a promotional gimmick, they apologized and donated $100,000.

And right after Amy Winehouse died, the Xbox 360 account thought the best way to honor her life was for fans to buy her latest album in the Zune store.

To be fair, Apple (AAPL) did post a picture of Amy Winehouse on the front of the the iTunes Store, also incentivizing an album purchase.

But, it appears that not every Microsoft product uses twitter for ill-advised marketing choices.

The Xbox Support account brought the company as a whole closer to redemption with the handling of a Twitter user who made lewd suggestions about an Xbox 360, fornication, and a Windows Phone. The account responded in kind with a well earned zinger.

Keep that in mind: Call out Microsoft on Twitter and they’ll find your manhood lacking.
