Google Plus a Threat to Security, Says Facebook

Print comment Post Comments

Google+ (GOOG) users are experiencing a spot of bother keeping up their digital presence on Facebook (FB).

It appears that a number of users who have set their Google+ accounts to automatically update their Facebook page are running into trouble when clicking their links. When clicked in Facebook, the link gets a warning pop-up claiming the link back to Google’s social network is potentially unsafe.

Facebook’s security partner, Symantec (SYMC), provides free Norton Antivirus on the social network, and most of the warning messages received by Google+ users were branded with Symantec’s own Norton Antivirus.

As of the time of this writing, some users are free of the warnings altogether. Some are still seeing the messages pop up, and sometimes without the Norton Antivirus name.

It’s also worth noting that Facebook is becoming better friends with another Google enemy. Apple (AAPL) just announced their new iOS 6 operating system will ditch Google Maps outright and integrate Facebook as a default app.

Symantec has also gotten closer to Apple after they picked up the free OS X based iAntivirus program and started a new version.
