YEAH, IT'S A FLIP PHONE

If you thought a serious head examination should’ve been on the docket for any schmo who sunk $1,000 into the I Am Rich app for the iPhone (AAPL) or double that amount for the Porsche-designed P'9981 BlackBerry (RIMM), this brand new cell phone-slash-status symbol calls for a full-on lobotomy.

A French technology startup called Celsius X VI II has unveiled the most ludicrous smartphone on the market, to date. When it goes on sale next year, the company’s maiden mobile model, LeDix Origine, will set its anatomically-challenged consumers back 250,000 euros or $312,000 USD. The limited-edition smartphone is made of grade-5 titanium, carbon fiber, ebony wood, and boasts a sapphire crystal display.

It also apparently allows you to make phone calls.

“We want to be the Rolls-Royce [of phones],” says Celsius X VI II co-founder Edouard Meylan. “You keep it, most of the time, for your entire life.”

Right, your entire life. Or at least until it slips out of your hand and hits the hardwood. For that kind of money, the phone should at least be programmed to play the “Funeral March” as it breaks into pieces.

Or at least, you know, not be a flip phone.
