Starbucks: Now In Vending Machines?

Print comment Post Comments

Just in case you’ve been forced to walk more than two blocks or drive more than two miles to reach a Starbucks (SBUX), a closer caffeine fix from the green lady may soon arrive in your city. Taking the ubiquitous barista out of the mix, the java giant has been allowing its go-go juice to start dripping out of (gasp) vending machines and one may be coming to a  near you.

An exclusive partnership announced with Coinstar, Inc. (CSTR) -- the machine-maker that turns our loose change into crisp dollar bills and lets us rent DVDs from the grocery store -- aims to put 15,000 coffee kiosks in various locations throughout the country over a five-year period. Currently, 50 such machines exist with the new deal rollout to include 500 more by the end of the year.

But if your cuppa joe is, say, the iced venti soy latte, you’ll still have to schlep to the store. For now, these machines will only dispense hot $1 cups of Starbucks' Seattle's Best and slightly more upgraded varieties for fifty cents more.

But ordering is half the fun, right? Isn’t that what we learned from that old Dunkin' Donuts (DNKN) ad, you know the one with the horrible earworm of a song made the list of Minyanville’s 10 Worst Commercial Jingles Ever?

Sorry if I just got it re-stuck in your head.
