Apple's iPad 3 Will Be Released in February, Says Citi

In the interest-generating hierarchy of Apple rumors, pre-release iPad news falls just below iPhone rumors, but still well ahead of iPod Classic chatter and ventured guesses at an eMac resurrection. But when consumers are looking at the potential of a high-resolution iPad 3 around the corner, they're going to want to know exactly when they can get their hands on one.

Well, one person has wagered a guess.

Keeping an ear to the inside chatter, Citi analyst Richard Gardner claimed in a note that the iPad 3 will be released in February. Basing his estimation on "several sources" in the know, Gardner said the iPad 3 will indeed feature a screen resolution double of the current models today. He added that "there do not appear to be any significant technical hurdles remaining" to complicate its release.

But Business Insider reports that the iPad 3 may be released following Samsung's own high-resolution tablet. The Android tablet is said to also have a February release date and feature a 2560x1600 resolution on an 11.6-inch screen.

The iPad 3 will likely be powered by an A6 processor and, like its iPhone brethren, be supported on Verizon, AT&T, and Sprint networks.
