Michelle Obama Gets White House Kitchen Staff to Drop the Pounds

They say change begins at home, and if staff members at the White House are any indication, we’ll soon be a nation of organic spinach juice-chugging, power-walking skinny folks.
You see, first lady Michelle Obama, noted for her Let’s Move initiative to curb childhood obesity, has been encouraging her White House staff to get with the program. And it’s been working, as the Associated Press reports:
Surrounded all day and most nights by delicious cakes, cookies, pies and more, Susie Morrison gave in to temptation too often during long hours at work in the White House pastry kitchen.

But no more.

Never a runner, the assistant pastry chef has finished her first 5K run. When the weather cooperates, she pedals her bicycle 26 miles roundtrip to work. She's eating more vegetables, limiting coffee and drinking up to a gallon of water every day -- dietary changes that Morrison says helped her drop 30 pounds from her 5-foot-5 frame in about 18 months.

One person gets most of the credit for Morrison's lifestyle makeover: Michelle Obama.
According to Morrison, the FLOTUS has been a “great inspiration” to her attempt to eat healthier. Translation: Mrs. Obama has ordered the Secret Service to monitor the kitchen to ensure all staff members fall in line.
Some of Morrison's colleagues are also taking the message to heart -- and the proof is in their waistlines.

Executive chef Cristeta Comerford, now 15 pounds lighter, said Mrs. Obama's campaign helped the group recognize their poor eating habits.

Instead of the cookie she reached for daily, Morrison, 44, said she now snacks on an apple or a handful of grapes.
Assistant chef Adam Collick cut out hundreds of calories by eliminating a daily coffee fix -- three 20-ounce cups topped with whipped cream drizzled with chocolate syrup.
Okay, we’re glad Michelle Obama was able to get Collick to quit his frappuccino habit, but three cups a day with “whipped cream drizzled with chocolate syrup?” Seriously?
Now that FLOTUS has gotten her employees ready for their closeups, she’s ready to get Americans nationwide off their asses. It won’t be an easy task, though: Many a first lady project has come and gone. Hillary Clinton’s health care initiative was a spectacular flop; Nancy Reagan’s “Just Say No” to drugs, violence and premarital sex campaign was met with a “Hell No!” from Americans.
However, given what she’s accomplished at home in such a short time, we won’t be too quick to count Michelle Obama out. McDonald’s, consider this your call to start getting serious about menu changes, or splashing around more lobbying cash.
