Nobody likes the aging process. It can destroy our good looks, cause Chinese food to congeal into an inedible mess, and render trendy hairstyles obsolete. A few things, such as wine or Brett Farve, actually improve with the passing of the years. The Internet, which has grown by leaps and bounds since its WebCrawler and Prodigy days, firmly belongs to the latter category.

In less than 20 years, the Internet has metamorphosized from an esoteric university research tool into an indispensable media that spans the globe. Internet companies such as Google (GOOG) now make multi-billion dollar deals and influence foreign policy. The transformation has been so complete that it's difficult to remember what the Internet looked like in its infancy.  Below, Online University reminds us how far the Internet has come over the past 15 years -- since the days when Google was a student-funded project called "Backrub" and Mark Zuckerberg was still a 12-year-old playing on his Atari BASIC.
