iPhone Rumor du Jour: Casing and Screen Size

Print comment Post Comments
As Porsche drivers nationwide have attested, it's not the size that counts.

The Apple rumor mill churners at DigiTimes have served up the latest iPhone 5 rumors and claimed that Cupertino's next iPhone won't be breaking the four-inch screen barrier. Despite preliminary reports that the new iPhone will be sporting a 4.2-inch screen, sources from upstream panel suppliers have stated that the touch panel for the upcoming iPhone will remain below the four-inch mark.

According to those sources, the dimensions to the iPhone 5 won't be much different from the current generation and will sport a 3.5- to 3.7-inch panel. However, the design will be slightly modified to allow for a thinner bezel and create the appearance of a larger panel.

DigiTimes also claims that the reinforced glass back panel to the iPhone 4 will be switched to a metal chassis. Although aesthetically pleasing, the reinforced glass proved to some to be more susceptible to shock and sudden impact, shattering more easily than previous models. The rumored switch to metal could be for durability's sake.

While it would be nice to have a larger iPhone screen to better flaunt the Retina Display, some would prefer the portability of a smaller device.
