A group of recent high school graduates were offered summer internships in Shanghai that truly furthered their educations, teaching the students how to do things like work overnight shifts in factories for free.

Liang Yiwen of the Shanghai Daily reports:

Scores of out-of-town high school graduates are demanding their pay for summer vacation "internship" work at a factory in Shanghai.

They were brought to work in the city by Ganxi College in Jiangxi Province, which launched a summer internship scheme to promote itself and attract new students.

[...]

"The college representative, Hu Zhengsheng, came to our high school at the end of May to invite us to participate in the summer internship event," said Zhong Guifang, a student from Ertang High School in southern China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. "He said it didn't matter whether we applied for the school or not. I double-checked with them before leaving my home," she said.

Okay -- so far, so good. A factory, huh? Must be a great opportunity to learn the ins-and-outs of the manufacturing trade from an executive's vantage point.

About 140 students were brought on as interns, where, according to the Shanghai Daily piece, "they worked on an assembly line in a computer manufacturing company... Most worked night shifts, usually six days a week."

Meaning, the college-bound kids boned up on subjects most graduates would likely pray they'd never have to use:

Now, the slaves interns would like to get paid.

The audacity! Well, not so fast, you greedy little ingrates.

"It's hard to find summer jobs for inexperienced students," explained Zhang Bing, the Ganxi professor who took the kids to Shanghai.
