WATCH: CFPB Nominee Richard Cordray on Jeopardy

After Elizabeth Warren was deemed unconfirmable as head of the Consumer Financial Protection Board, former Ohio Attorney General Richard Cordray has been tapped to lead the agency.

"Richard Cordray has spent his career advocating for middle-class families, from his tenure as Ohio’s attorney general to his most recent role as heading up the enforcement division at the CFPB and looking out for ordinary people in our financial system," President Obama said on Sunday.

"Rich has always had my strong support because he is tough and he is smart -- and that's exactly the combination this new agency needs," Warren added. "He was one of the first senior leaders I recruited for the agency, and his work and commitment have made it clear that he will make a stellar director."

If he does half as well as a consumer watchdog as he did on Jeopardy in 1987, walking away with $45,303 of Alex Trebek's hard-earned cash, Cordray's tenure will have been a success.
