Google+ Invites and upcoming iPhone features may be dominating headlines as of late, but we're on the verge of a major shift in commerce that dwarfs any new social network or wireless iOS update.

Mobile payments.

Your Squares, your Google Wallets, your PayPals, your Isiseseses-... Seems like everyone -- as fellow Minyan Donn Perez Fresard reported yesterday -- wants to get in on the mobile payment future. A future where forgetting your wallet and fumbling with change are no longer. Everything is done on your Android, iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Phone, or any NFC-equipped device. Just one quick swipe, and you're golden.

But we're still in the preliminary stages of mobile payments, where one competitor has yet to really pull ahead of the pack. Square's valued at $1 billion, but as Fresard mentioned, it's hardly the only one.

As for mobile payments future, professional community service G+ created an infographic which runs down the concept and competitors for this next step in commerce both business and personal.

(Note: Mashable reports that American Express's Serve platform has been confirmed to support Visa, Mastercard, Discover, debit cards, and other types of accounts.)
