Pension Protests Hardly Limited to Greece

As Greece burns in the wake of massive protests over -- among other things -- deep pension cuts imposed by the European Union, it seems that global social mood has "gone Hellenic" as well.

While the slogans chanted in Athens may be different from the ones heard in France, excessive, unsustainable debt created by high levels of government spending in the face of dwindling revenues is the match that set the kindling ablaze.

For all the armchair socionomists out there, here's a by-no-means-exhaustive-or-even-necessarily-close-to-complete look at some potentially market-moving pension-induced protests/riots/marches/demonstrations that have happened since the year began:

1. Greece

2. England

3. Wales

4. Sri Lanka

5. China

6. Turkey

7. Hungary

8. Romania

9. Belgium

10. Pakistan

11. Czech Republic

12. Atlanta
