Fantastic iPhone App Puts Call Centers on Hold Instead

"Well-well-well, Dish Network. It appears the tables have turned, haven't they? Here I am, waiting to tell you about my fuzzy picture, and it is you -- YOU! -- who was put on hold. So, anyway, I was wonderi-... Hello? HELLO?"

Unfortunately, this app can only do so much.

Fast Customer -- a $0.99 productivity app available for both iPhone and Android -- has your best consumer interests in mind. According to its description, "The average person wastes 60 hours on hold every year. We wanted a better way to get to a real person when you want customer service."

So the makers behind the app have created a system where it connects you to one of hundreds of company's call centers and the app takes control while on hold. When a representative becomes available, it instructs them to press a button to call you. Sort of a "set it and forget it" for customer service.

Though already similar to apps like LucyPhone and Fonolo, Fast Customer will "navigate the phone trees for you."

Granted, all these apps rely on service reps to have the common decency to follow an order and call the customer back by pressing a single button. And that might be asking too much.
