10 Retailers That Are Expanding

Print comment Post Comments
The main focus in the media is on the death of the consumer, reductions in spending and retailers that are closing. Blockbuster, Abercrombie & Fitch and Men's Warehouse are among the most high profile retailers to eliminate stores. But not every retailer is taking down shingles and folding up tents. Below are 10 retailers that are expanding, opening up net new stores. Sure, the list is dominated by cost-conscious, low budget retailers targeting consumers with less discretionary dollars than the Tiffany's of the world, but at this point we'll take what we can get. This is what your mall is going to look like next year.

Dollar Tree (DLTR) - 230 new stores planned

Family Dollar (FDO)  - 200 new stores planned

Dollar General (DG) - 155 new stores planned

Big Lots (BIG) - 80 new stores planned

Urban Outfitters (URBN) - 45 new stores planned

Kohl's (KSS) - 30 new stores planned

Jos. A. Banks (JOSB) 30-40 new stores planned

Wet Seal (WTSLA)  - 25 new stores planned

Target (TGT) - 20 new stores planned

99 Cents Only Stores (NDN) - 14 new stores planned

Meanwhile, just as everyone is fleeing the stock market and shunning fashion for snuggies, remember that this too shall pass. Why, back in 1992, remember when we all asked, How Much is Enough?
POSITION:  No positions in stocks mentioned.
