DepewTube: Lower Oil, Higher Stocks?

Eyeing the dip in crude, Kevin warns investors about assuming that lower oil prices are necessarily good for the stock market.

Energy companies like Exxon-Mobil (XOM), Chevron (CVX) and ConocoPhillips (COP) have accounted for a large percentage of S&P earnings over the past couple of years and have more than doubled their percentage weighting in the S&P 500 Index over the past five years from 6.5% to 14%. Without question, lower oil prices help consumers and certain segments of the economy, but the economy and the stock market are two very different things.
