As social mood continues to decay, many say that people will choose not to live their lives as an open book. (Or e-book... this is the digital age, after all.)

Not long ago, New York Times media reporter Virginia Heffernan explored the increasing disillusionment with Facebook and social networking. Even with Facebook attracting 87.7 million unique visitors in July, there's a growing backlash among Facebookers, and a move toward the comfort of privacy.

The reversal in social mood means one of the last signs of the bull market is fading.
