Two Ways: Watch for Incoming iPods
Strengthen your portfolio in good times and bad.
Apple (AAPL) could unveil a new line of iPods as soon as next week. According to the Wall Street Journal, the Cupertino, California-based company has already sent out invitations to media and analysts for a "special event" in San Francisco on September 9. Some are speculating a new iPod Touch could have a built-in camera feature which might also appear on the classic iPod and nano models.
Sales for the music players have slowed in recent times due in part to popularity of the iPhone. Last quarter, the company reported an 11% decline in iPod revenue because of "cannibalization" from the iPhone.
From the Bull Pen: For today, bulls can look to Research In Motion (RIMM). The stock, sitting in green while stock futures are currently down, hints at higher demand. It could lead to the upside, especially if the tape turns. For those playing it, remember to set a 2% trailing sell stop.
From the Bear Cave: In tech, bears can keep an eye on Baidu (BIDU). Watch for a convincing break of the 50-day moving average (around $324). Risk management is key in these types of plays, so a 2% buy stop above entry could be prudent.
