Room Service

What's all this hospitality costing you?

Hotels are in the business of keeping guests satisfied. And judging from revenues, they're doing a pretty good job. Starwood Hotels (HOT), parent of the W and Westin chains, brought in just under $6 billion last year alone. Hilton took in just over $8 billion. Marriott (MAR): $16 billion.

But it's not just room rates that bring in the big bucks. Hotels these days make money selling everything from bathrobes to beds. Enjoying that queen sized Heavenly Bed from Westin? For $1,300 you can take it with you!

Beyond plush beds and spa services, however, is the real cash cow: pay-per-view porn. Movies like American Bi and Hustler's All-Girl Slumber Party are partially responsible for hundreds of millions of extra dollars annually. An Associated Press report said that adult films generate 60 to 80% of total in-room entertainment revenue, edging overpriced liquor and snacks on offer in the mini-bar
