"Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos into order, confusion into clarity, problems into gifts, failures into success, the unexpected into perfect timing and mistakes into important events. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today and creates a vision for tomorrow."
--Melody Beattie

It's a fine line, this gratitude thing. In the midst of what is widely considered the worst year in the history of global financial markets, there aren't many smiles floating around.

It's indeed a tough time as social mood shifts and frazzled folks try to find their way.

Pain is prevalent, almost to the point where you don't want to share good news for fear it will be interpreted as a victory lap.

People are ornery. Patience is thin.

Many axioms have emerged in Minyanville over the years.

The purpose of the journey is the journey itself.

Time is the arbiter of all fate.

What goes around, comes around.

In order to get through this, we need to go through this.

Think positive.

Each carries wisdom passed down from more austere generations and many have been learned anew as society weeds itself from an era of conspicuous consumption.

This story is not about "me." It's not even about Minyanville. It's about you-about us-about sticking together, believing in dreams and doing our part to be a part of the solution in whatever form that may take.

The Minyanville mission is to affect positive change through financial understanding and allow folks to laugh while they learn. The cornerstones of that initiative-content, community and critters-all play equal parts in the final franchise.

The integrity of our content prepared ye faithful for the financial malaise, guided them through the capital market destruction and shifted its lens to identifying possible paths and potential solutions as we prepare for the new world order.

Our community is the finest collection of human capital on the planet; a trusted network that believes there is a better way to live and do business, a brighter future to look forward to and an individual responsibility in helping us get there.

The Emmy-Award Winning Critters-take a bow fellas!-engage audiences of all ages, remove intimidation from the educational process and provide necessary smiles in terse times.

Someone once said that a little levity goes a long way and that has proved true, now more than ever.

Old school Minyans know we tell this tale with utmost humility and profound gratification. It's been a long, hard road and there is no pride, per se, just heartfelt appreciation for the journey we together share in a team effort towards a common goal.

We've hosted events before, each slightly different but all sharing the same roots.

There was the 2004 Minyans in the Mountains in Crested Butte, Colorado.

Minyans in the Mountains Deux followed the next summer in Ojai, California .

A throwback MIM3 in Vail, Colorado in the summer of 2006 was followed by an awesome Critter's Choice Awards in December to benefit children.

And then there was last year's Festivus, an old-fashioned hoe down in the heart of Manhattan. We made a conscious decision to skip our mountain sojourn as we felt it was in poor taste into the teeth of a recession.
