Take Larry Kudlow on CNBC. On his Kudlow & Company on August 28, he said: "With the US dollar up and oil down and businesses investing, I think the [economy] is back in business."
Well, we all know how that turned out.
What about Allan Sloan of Fortune magazine, who wrote on July 7 that “Lehman won’t fail.”
Whoops!
Of course, the nature of around-the-clock cable news makes it difficult to keep things fresh, which is perhaps why so many financial pundits feel compelled to their mouths. But is all the guesswork really that helpful?
