Trading Radar: Central Banks Face Big Decisions

By Michael Sedacca Sep 30, 2011 3:00 pm

Economics, earnings reports, and market events for the week ahead.

Next week will be an important one as a number of economic reports in the US and abroad will be released. On Thursday and Friday, central banks of countries including England, Europe, Japan and Australia will make tough decisions on whether or not to adjust rates to boost growth in stalling economies. As well, a bevy of reports about jobs and unemployment rates will be released across the globe.

One important event is Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke's testimony on Tuesday, October 4,  to the U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee. Last time the Chairman was in the limelight, we learned a few interesting thoughts on further monetary policy changes. In the earnings space there are no major reports, but earnings season will begin to kick into higher gear in coming weeks as investors continue to hope there are no downside surprises in store.
