Economic Snapshot: Who Else Can We Get to Deliver Bad Economic News?

Our unscientific poll.

The harder our leaders try to inspire confidence, the further the Dow Jones Industrial Average drops. Coincidence? Hardly.

On Friday, from the White House lawn, President Bush did his best to assure the American people that the US economy is resilient. After the 9-minute pep talk, the market had fallen by 107 points.

And just yesterday, when Chairman Bernanke addressed the Economic Club of New York, his confident tone regarding the government's economic strategy proved no match for the not-so-hot financial news from every corner: The Dow took another tumble.

For the sake of our mutual funds, if not our sanity: Who else can we get to deliver bad economic news?
