Microsoft: It's Time to Give Up on Search


Ballmer and co. need to face the music -- or get left behind.

Microsoft's (MSFT) efforts to win, or even make steady progress, in the online search wars have flopped.

Again. And again. And maybe forever and ever without end, amen.

In the past, the software giant could pour money down the search rabbit hole because its core business was secure. But no longer, as Google (GOOG), Apple (AAPL), Oracle (ORCL) aggressively move into mobile platforms and netbooks.

Henry Blodget, of Silicon Alley Insider has some thoughts on how Microsoft might make headway in the search wars by linking up with Yahoo (YHOO).
