Can Google's Android Catch Up to iPhone?

Updated mobile software features some noticeable improvements.

At times, it seems like Google (GOOG) is destined to rule the world.

But the latest updates to its Android mobile software suggest that it won’t catch Apple’s (AAPL) iPhone anytime soon.

Android has added home-screen widgets, speech recognition and other nifty features that are likely to be released by the end of April. These are solid improvements, but aren’t enough to leapfrog iPhone 3.0, scheduled to release in June.

But with a few more tweaks, could Android have a future as the basis of mass-market phones? Dan Frommer at BusinessInsider.com offers this dispatch from the front lines of the cut-throat wireless sector.

In memory of our fallen friend and trusted colleague, Bennet Sedacca, 100% of the donations made to the RP Foundation through April will be channeled to philanthropic endeavors consistent with the RP mission, working closely with the Sedacca clan in the distribution of those funds. We thank you kindly for your support as we strive to effect positive change in the lives of children.
