The 10-Year Anniversary of 9/11

A look back is meaningless... Without also looking forward.

A look back is meaningless...
Without also looking forward. Five years ago the financial world's paradigm was shifted in ways that transcend geographical boundaries, superpowers and economic threats. Much of what we generally thought to be "true" was only a fading snapshot of history. Which truths of today will still exist five years from now?

Times change... And people adapt to change. Minyan Mike Santoli does an excellent job this week describing transformations to the financial industry since 9/11. Capitalism is collectively reflective of its participants: Real people, driven by a human spirit that is nothing if not capable of adapting. As some try to transform the world to reflect their visions of the past, they will be met constantly by those with visions of the future.

Look back... And look ahead. 9/11's trading session begins appropriately with the NYSE's moment of silence in remembrance of the event. Many will remember the innocents lost that day and since, and their loved ones left behind. Then the financial world will go about its daily business. Monday's opening bell is not also a closing bell on remembering 9/11. Every day is another opportunity to cherish where we have been and where we are, and to make the best for where we are going.
