Durable Goods

The most important economic data point of the week is coming out this AM: Durable Goods data for June is out at 8:30 ET today. Consensus is +1.4% (vs May -0.4%) but the range of expectations is quite large: 0% to 4.5%. We know that the Fed cares quite a bit about the corporate outlook, having engineered a rebound on the consumer side of the economy via low rates. And based on speeches given by Greenspan et al., the figure to note below the headline will be the backlog of unfilled orders (as opposed to shipments) for non-defense capital goods ex aircraft. I have only seen a few economists in print for an estimate of this sub-index number: they are looking flat to slightly up.

The ten year has gotten a bit of a bid overnight and the dollar is weaker, two important markets to watch after the durable goods number hits the tape. Go get 'em.
