Buzz & Banter

First, I want to welcome all of the new writers to the Gazette and the Minyanville family. I believe the citizens of our fine town are really going to love the new talent.

As I was walking down the street of our imaginary town (as you all know, I have issues), I saw Jason and felt compelled to compliment him on his work putting together today's article. It is really interesting and manifests the kind of diligent work that makes him a Minyan. The one question I couldn't get out of my mind was this: If you strip out the non-operating companies (closed-end funds, preferreds, etc.) does the reading still look the same? As John Brooks of Lowrey's has pointed out to me on a number of occasions, 48% of those listed on the NYSE are non-operating companies.

Well I'd better ask Jason because he put out some pretty dramatic info.
