ASCO heads up

It's gettin' busy in the Big Easy!

Just a quick note from New Orleans to remind everyone the abstract becomes available to all ASCO attendees bright and early this morning. As I've noted previously, the abstracts were available to ASCO members early. Now anyone who is here in New Orleans for the conference has access to the abstract book.

Today's trading should reflect any "early" push to the stock price ahead of when the company is allowed to release the text of the abstract. Companies are prohibited from releasing abstract information until after the abstracts are presented or the last day of the conference (Tuesday), whichever comes first. The heaviest press release traffic will come Monday.

From now until Tuesday afternoon, scientists will be making presentations of clinical data. Since these presentations carry far more detail than the abstracts, they will also move stocks one way or the other. These movements are far less predictable as far as timing is concerned.

Bottom line, expect any biotech company relying on cancer products for valuation to be unusually volatile over the next three trading days.
