Updated short interest

Short interest down?

Many puzzled at why the Red Dye Junction clan could not break the indices to the downside over the past month despite several opportunities. It could be that short covering by Boo's bunch helped stem any serious red tide.

I'm sure Hoofy will take any help he can get at this point. But if that is the scenario actually in play here, then he needs to tell Daisy to be extra nice to our ursine friend.

Any time we discuss short interest figures, it is worth saying they really represent a snapshot taken on one day. They are reported only once per month. We know nothing about the motivations behind these positions. The data do not include short positions in options - at least not explicitly. Take them with a large grain of salt, in other words.

Here's an update of a chart I first showed here about a month ago. I note I have included the corrected NYSE data for last month. Apparently, a brokerage over-reported a short position in one stock by over 25 million shares.
