Down Goes Frazier! Down Goes Frazier!

This is about a certain type of investment, the investment in life. I've known Todd for close to 20 years. Most of you know him virtually or as Toddo from his days at the Street.com to the birth of Minyanville. Most of you know how unique he is in his perspective on life, investing and his deep commitment to friends and family. Wednesday, a new chapter in Todd's life began and I'm happy to write about it for our Minyanville readers. One thing is for certain; Todd is never short on living.

I'm not going to regale you with the stories of Todd's bachelorhood. That's the past. And frankly, it will be released in Penthouse letters over the next six years. All I will say is that many of Todd's friends lived vicariously through him for many years. Todd was the consummate bachelor. Oops, did I say was? I'll get to the end of the story soon. I'm going to start a year ago almost to the day.

Todd walked into the office one morning and told me he was in love. Initially he didn't share with whom, but as you know Todd isn't one to keep a secret. Within minutes, he's telling me about Vanessa. This was not good.

See Todd introduced me to Vanessa to hire her as our Marketing Coordinator for Minyanville. I have a philosophy, do not s#@t where you eat. It's an old business expression, but one I've always tried to abide by. We're a young company and the last thing we need is an office romance to throw the entire atmosphere out of whack. That evening, I went home and I wrote Todd a three-page email telling him to stop before he starts. Having lived through a number of Todd's relationships, I still thought he was the consummate bachelor and this was simply another conquest. Add to it the fact that this was one of Todd's best friend's (Lionel's) little sisters and now the situation was going to be really tenuous. At the time, I thought nothing good would come of this.

Needless to say, Todd's response to my email was pretty negative. It put a bit of tension on our relationship, but I had to respect Todd wanting to live life and find happiness. I've been married for 12 years and what if this was the right relationship for Todd. Vanessa is a tough cookie. She doesn't suffer fools lightly. She can take care of her own. Not to mention she's a beautiful woman. The romance grew over the past year and Todd and Vanessa have lived life with one another and within the confines of Minyanville, both the virtual and real. They have balanced work and play and did a pretty good job of managing to keep the romance from affecting the work environment.

On that day one year ago, Todd walked into my office and he told me he was going to marry Vanessa. Now This was different because the words "marry" and "Todd" were like oil and water, like ice and heat, like acid and metal, like, I don't know…help me here. Needless to say, Todd using the word "marry" in a sentence about him was a surprise and not to be taken lightly.

So, fast forward one year to the day: at about
3pm on Wednesday Todd's down on one knee putting a ring on Vanessa's finger. Yes, you've heard it New York , "Sorry folks, park's closed!"

Todd Harrison is no longer a bachelor. Sure we can still live vicariously through him as we sip martinis at the Four Season's bar. Sure we can regale you with stories of his house in Sag Harbor with the five-car garage that was converted into a disco. But those stories will have to wait for another forum.

The fact is, Todd has made a long-term investment in Vanessa today. One chapter of the journey has come to an end and another fantastic chapter is about to begin. Congratulations Toddo and Queen V.
