Random Thoughts

Given the games people play, it's entirely more convoluted.

  • It's great to see Kevin "Tickle me" Tuttle back in the Jo' saddle!

  • The Minx slinks up the hump as Hoofy looks to get pleasantly plump. After an initial tetherball, the combination of snazzy internals and brazen brokers spurred the herd and spread the word. I opined late yesterday that I was wary of the "first move is the false move" post-FOMC phenomena and that's what seems to be unfolding. Issues certainly remain--and today is far from over--but the bovine are broadening their sponsorship to include the Russell (+1.2%), XAU (+2.5%), biotech (BTK +1%), the saucy semis (SOX +1.5%) and, of course, the brokers (+2.5 %).

  • President Fish (nice feel on SunMicro, boss) has been on the "social networking" train for some time. It looks like he's gonna be right again.

  • What have I done today? I added a bit of Apple as it tickled the 200-day (first time since early 2004) and traded some meaty "special situations" while leaving my energy, metal and SunMicro (+6.5%) exposure in tact.

  • Congrats to silver on her eleventh birthday. I still think she's a teenager in waiting.

  • T-Minus nine days till we shake some bones!

  • Minyans are pining for clues regarding the MIM3 venue. Queen Vanessa, who twisted her royal foot and is gimping around, will unleash the hounds very soon. Suffice to say that the venue, content and community will make ye faithful proud.

  • Citigroup is still toying with uber-resistance at $48.

  • Answers I Really Wanna Know... (Buzz 10:32)
    • Was that a "lucky guess" by the gorilla that scooped 10,000 SunMicro calls on Monday?
    • When does the General Malaise "matter" for the broader tape?
    • Do you see the continued dichotomy between the red banks and green brokers?
    • Do you see NYSE breadth improving to 2:1 positive?
    • Will SunMicro fill that opening gap (back to $5) and retest the acne before marching higher?
    • Do you see the VXO down a quick 3%?
    • Will the Yankees have the pitching to compete this year?
    • Do you see Gold tickling the (slight) downtrend line from the February highs?
    • Can Apple hold the 200-day?
    • Are you in shape for an uptick in volatility?
    • What's for lunch?

  • "Should" $400 cap Google? If technicals were the only metric in the mix, I would say that it's an easy fade (read: sale) the first try. But given the games people play, it's entirely more convoluted.

  • Dr. Minyan Ron Sen--who is also a Minyan Mountaineer--tell us how you really feel!

  • Wanna Get Away? Alotta peeps traveling in my NYC circles are looking to sell their homes and "flip" into the rental market. That market, according to several well placed friends in the realty business, is now the tightest in history! While I never bought into Manhattan property--I thought it was lofty five years ago!--I was fortunate enough to lock in an absurdly priced rental.

  • "Fresh acne in Oil and Oil Services: Baker Hughes (BHI), Anadarko Petroleum (APC), ConocoPhillips (COP), Nobel Affiliates (NBL), and Weatherford (WFT) among those with fresh breakouts today." Pepe Depew on yesterday's Buzz

  • "While I like the commodity, a related stock that looks vulnerable to me technically is Imperial Sugar (IPSU). The stock registered a DeMark TD-Comb 13 on the daily chart." Pepe Depew on today's Buzz.

  • I highlighted the crude COT chart this morning but it's worth a look if ya missed it.

  • Overall hedge fund returns seem to be tracking the S&P YTD.
