Global markets were leaning to the upside today with the CAC40 gaining just under a half a percent. The Japanese Nikkei gained 2.08% today while the Hang Seng finished in negative territory.
Looking out on the rest of the day, 9:50amEDT brings the University of Michigan confidence report with expectations at 93.7. Earnings are relatively quiet next week however Best Buy(BBY:NYSE) and Circuit City(CC:NYSE) will post their results in the middle of the week.
Knight Trading(NITE:NASD) was upped to strong buy from outperform at Raymond James. AG Edwards downgraded Human Genome(HGSI:NASD) to hold from buy. Morgan Stanley upgraded Hilton(HLT:NYSE) to overweight from equal-weight. Goldman upgraded McKesson(MCK:NYSE) and Cardinal Health(CAH:NYSE) to outperform from in line. Merrill Lynch added General Electric(GE:NYSE) to their Focus 1 List. Smith Barney upgraded Best Buy(BBY:NYSE) to buy from hold and raised its price target to $62 from $57. CSFB offered some positive comments on Citigroup(C:NYSE).
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Apple(AAPL:NASD) iPod mini has been delayed for distribution outside the U.S. because of stronger than expected domestic demand.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Hewlett-Packard(HPQ:NYSE) has filed a patent-infringement suit against Gateway(GTW:NYSE).
THQ Inc.(THQI:NASD) raised its 4th quarter guidance and said it now sees $0.12 vs $0.07 consensus on revenues of $110 million versus $91 million consensus.
Echostar(DISH:NASD) came in a bit light on the EPS although it showed a profit. Revenues were on the light side as well and its revenue outlook for subscription growth was below expectations.

Reuters reports that following the U.S. veto of UN condemnation of the Israeli assassination of Hamas terrorist leader Sheikh Yassin, the Palestinians have been crying foul and have accused the United States of giving the Israelis a license to kill.
BBC news reports that al-Jazeera has broadcast an audio recording supposedly made by al-Zawahri calling on the Pakistanis to remove President Musharraf from power because he is working for the Americans.
According to BBC news, following Taiwan's election confirmation by authorities that President Chen Shui-bian won last week's election, protestors took to the streets and became violent. President Chen was re-elected by the narrowest of margins beating his opponent by 0.2% of the vote.
