Freaky Friday Random Thoughts

Let's see some upsets!

  • Snaps to uber-Minyan Eric Knight for leading his team to Park City gold! Old School Minyans will remember Eric from MIM1 in Crested Butte, where he led the mountain biking lights through the cool Colorado rain.

  • It was fun while it lasted--and, truthfully, it lasted a lot longer than I thought it would. Congrats to the Big East Champion Syracuse Orange on a fine season. And thanks G-Mac, for the guts, the grit and the 2003 Crown.

  • As past resistance is future support, Hoofy will once again lean on S&P 1300 as his first level of lore.

  • Last night, while enjoying the Allmans, a Minyan walked up to me and said "tough coupla days, eh?" I looked at him and said, "Uh, not really--at least not more than usual--why?" He mentioned the bear costume (getting squeezed) and it was then that I realized how much I've matured in this business. I still care, of course, but my net worth and self-worth have completely decoupled. It's taken 16 years but it's a mighty fine frame of mind.

  • We openly asked if the incessant acne (read: breakouts in the banks, small caps, trannies) are the genesis of a painful pop & drop. It's too early to tell but we need to keep our eyes peeled, particularly when the sticky witches fly away.

  • Television's JeffMacke just returned from Sydney. Coincidence? I think not...

  • Dr. Minyan Ron Sen weighs in with some thoughts on the Avian Flu.

  • The semis, which were a big ugly red mess yesterday, start the session with the same impression. They're again dancing in Red Dye and casting an eye towards the 200-day at SOX 478.

  • I'm paying my last respects to a slew of downsides--including some financials and IBM puts--and will ride a handful of positions and postures into next week. I'm torn on the "pop & drop" scenario which means, in my book, to do less. I may be old but my fingers are still quick enough to pull a trigger if I see something meaty. But I won't bet just to bet--that's a recipe for giveback and would be entirely inconsistent with the proactive patience I so often speak of.

  • Keep an eye on General Electric. While it just climbed over the 200-day, $35 is the level where it broke down. If the witches pull this puppy to the strike, it might be an interesting short candidate.

  • Market breadth? Flatter than day old Guinness.

  • "The Retail HOLDRs (RTH) broke a triple top yesterday on a .5x3 PnF scale and now face a test at 100 resistance. Looking at the RTH DeMark counts no complete "perfected" sell setups exist right now. 96 would break a triple bottom." Pepe Depew on today's Buzz

  • Pharma is knockin' on acne's door (DRG 335) again.

  • Mini-Minyan Mailbag: "Although I'm a Carolina fan, you guys may know that I actually attended and graduated from Davidson College . Here is Greg Doyel's article on the squad…if you don't have time to read it, McKillop has graduated 53 of 54 seniors in 17 years at the school. The last two NCAA tournament trips resulted in losses to Ohio State and Michigan and both of those teams have forfeited their victories against Davidson due to NCAA violations. Go Heels, Go Cats, Go L'Orange – but tomorrow at noon – go Davidson! Minyan Tripp Martin "

  • Hoofy has the ball as long as A) S&P 1300 is underfoot, B) The financials hold their bid and C) the internals hang tough. But his real test will arrive next week.

  • The homies, up 7% on the week, are probin' a triple top near HGX 270.

  • Who said Canadians can't pick hoops? Queen Vanessa is thus far beating Billy "I bleed Kentucky blue" Meehan and Spider in the Minyan March Madness Brackets.

  • While Billy and Pepe plot their St. Patrick's spoonage, I'm hoppin' on a flight tonight to deliver a keynote at the Entrepreneurs Conference in Oregon. While I always tell President Fish that I'm the visionary and he's the entrepreneur, I'll do my best to represent. At the end of the day, affecting positive change through educational interaction is one of life's greatest gifts.

  • The purpose of the journey is the journey itself...
