Caught in the Crossfire

Afraid of my own shadow, in the face of grace
Heart full of darkness, spotlight on my face
There was love all around me, but I was looking for revenge
Thank God it never found me, would have been the end

(Stevie Ray Vaughn)

Alright, if you've never had the good fortune of listening to SRV play the guitar, I strongly urge you to pick up a CD (or DVD) at your earliest convenience and crank it up! Talk about a talent that was taken before his time....jeez! In any event, please join me in offering a hearty congrats to Philippe Denolf for correctly identifying Gekmo as the original old school critter. Phil, you'll have your choice of any one of the 26 different Minyanville Tee's, all super-soft, all super-comfy and all sporting a critter. Wasabi!

Back to life and back in reality, the Minx continues to troll around the same levels and the consensus among the traders I speak with is they're too smart to buy 'em and too 'scared to short 'em. I can't say I fault either camp but, again, defining your risk profile removes emotion from the mix and allows you to play. That is, of course, if you want to play-which is not a requirement. The tape certainly acts well, considering, but the looming expiry and weekend uncertainty only add to the plethora of balls that are currently in the air.

Willie Gates (of Microsoft fame) will be kicking off COMDEX on Sunday night and there will be a handful of heavyweights sharing the Vegas spotlight. Also, Lehman Brothers will be starting their semiconductor conference on Monday and everyone who's anyone (present company excluded) will be attending that fete. With the SOX stocks being such an important psychological gauge for the market, investors will be keying off the body language, facial expressions and breathing patterns of these companies CEO's.

Our football poll is in full motion and at the half way mark, Joe Montana is starting to pull away. Brett Far-harvra had taken the early lead but his knees (or something like that) musta slowed him down. Barry Sanders, Jim Brown and Walter Payton are rounding out the top five-but the Minyanville officials have flagged Sweetness as it seems Mr. Martell and the rest of his cartel are trying to stuff the box.

I hope this finds you awake and having a fine day. I'll be back.
