Things I've been thinking about...

Things I've been thinking about…

  • A Starbucks (SBUX) in my office? My water company just offered to deliver me Starbucks coffee. I always said this trade will stop working when they start opening Starbucks inside Starbucks. We just got closer. And I'll stick with Kona beans from Whole Foods (WFMI).

  • I hear inflation has been slayed, but I see something else:

A six-hole hitter making $25 mln. I'm ready for Moneyball's A's against the Evil Empire of Inflation and bad bullpens. You do realize that third baseman was paid the same amount of money for every four games this year as Frank Thomas was, for the entire year?

  • The new Monopoly game nets you $2 mln for passing Go, up from $200. I can just imagine the McGuirk's family game… "Told ya blokes, that's why I'm long this silver thimble not that paper stuff." And I'm with you Laurie, the mini-Kruegers are adding coins on the dip at a furious pace.

  • And not speaking of rates, will Bernanke get some overdue credit for a change? Mixed into fedspeak was an intelligent (since I agree) and potentially enormous point he makes on immigration. It's not our biggest problem, it's the answer to our biggest problem (unfunded entitlements).

  • My old pal from my Citigroup days, Kyle Cooper, deserves credit for nailing a call and preparing his flock at IAF Advisors about the ABUNDANCE of oil supply. Remember when Nigerian violence was worth $2 for crude in an hour. Now it's on the back pages for days. The market has spoken.

  • Can you fade Jeremy Siegel in here? The launch of many new "indexing" products that attack market cap weightings is coinciding with the first year in many that the market-cap weighted indexes are outperforming equally weighted indexes. Ultimately I don't think this lasts, as there is a component of fundamental indexing that my partner and I have used quantitatively for years, which beats market cap weights for a reason. But it's noteworthy that as it became just a little popular the dinosaurs fought back.

  • Macke's Twins are done, and they were before Boof took the mound (should have stuck with the name his parents gave him, John). Before you get upset Wolf (or called on to pitch game 3) read your e-mail from me with an uncomfortable amount of praise I've heaped on you and Fast Money. Minyans, if you haven't watched, you're missing a truly fantastic show with some guys who are getting a lot of stuff right and which doesn't collide in the same sentence with television very often.
