Retail Roundup: September 2005
"How dare you make fun of Kate Moss!"
Having poured over the Sept numbers for our not-updated-yet Retail Round-up, the numbers are soft but don't seem to be an across the board train-wreck, considering the low expectations.
The retailers have every excuse to put in a leg higher here, in a "buy the only slightly bad news" reaction. It's not a trading "call" but rather something I'll be keeping my eye on in the first hour. If the stocks can't get green and stay there, it would bode poorly for the sector (beware stocks that should rally but don't).
My Stock Tells for retaildom today are:
- Wal-Mart (WMT): Didn't warn and beloved by the broker set. Can the chart begin repairing itself?
- Talbots (TLB): Most surprising of the assorted whiffs. Can the stock find a bottom early?
- Abercrombie & Fitch (ANF): Fallen superstar w/ impressive (if "slowing") numbers. Can they rally?
