Everybody's favorite uncle, Buck Russell, swung by the University of Minyanville and pulled up with Professor Toddo. The exchange went something like this:
U.B: You know, Toddo, I don't think I want to know a six-year old who isn't a dreamer or a sillyheart, and I surely don't want to know one who takes their student career seriously. Trading, however, that's no joke. How can you sit there and pen your silly little lyrics with your goofy little characters and play your games?
Toddo: Hey Eubie, you, more than anyone, should understand that a little levity goes a long way. If the underlying content is value added, what's wrong with a couple of smiles along the way? Why are you buggin', is everything alright with Chanise?
U.B: Yeah, Chanise and the rest of the gang at Kobolowski Tire's are doing great. This is about the muddled messages that you often deliver...why can't you just come out and say what you mean? What do you really think?
Toddo: Well, for one, this column is not a financial advice site, it's a forum to discuss and debate the crosscurrents of the tape. Our intent, big guy, is to help educate people as to what's going on and provide insight to the process. I can offer my view, at times, but please know that it's only one (humble) trader's opinion and, like everybody else, there are times I'm right and times I'm wrong. That's part of the game.
U.B: You're not a bug, are you gnat? You didn't answer my question!
Toddo: (sigh) My best guess, Bucky, has remained consistent. I still sense a stiff rally at a point before year end, but I think it's gotta start from lower levels. Too many people are hoping that the double bottom holds in the Dow Jones and S&P-and if we've learned anything these last few years, it's that selling hope and buying despair has been a profitable strategy.
U.B: What about today, Toddo...tell me what's gonna happen!
Toddo: It's not my job to call the tape everyday, cookie, and I want to make that clear. What I will do is offer information that will (hopefully) allow you to make better decisions. That's where the value is. For instance, I continue to monitor our mamaluke BKX support level of 670...that's huge for the tape today. I'm also noting the breadth in the marketplace is relatively constructive, thus far, and that's something we should factor into our mix as well. I've yet to hear rumblings of alligators (asset allocators)...but this is Minyanville, baby...alligators aren't out of the question.
U.B: I find the whole thing silly. Here, take this quarter, go downtown, and have a rat gnaw that thing off your face! Good day, Toddo!
Toddo: May peace be with you, Eubie...now do us all a favor and get in your mouse, and drive away!
