MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL Next week will be the second straight week that has been shortened due to the holidays. On Monday, while the markets will be open for a full day, light volume should be expected as it is New Year's Eve. On Tuesday, New Year's Day, US and European markets will be closed.

Although it is a shortened week, the very important monthly payroll reports will be released on Friday. Leading up to it is the ADP private payrolls report on Thursday, which is forecast to show a small increase over last month. Additionally, Friday's nonfarm payrolls report is forecast to show a similar gain. Also this week, the ISM will release manufacturing and non-manufacturing composites.

Globally, China will release a slew of economic figures steadily throughout the week. Recently, Chinese economic data has begun to gradually turn a corner, so a continued increase could help sustain the rally. In Europe, the eurozone and the UK will release their manufacturing and non-manufacturing composites.

In earnings, Family Dollar (NYSE:FDO), Finish Line (NASDAQ:FINL), and Mosaic (NYSE:MOS) are the key reports for the week.
