Midday Dow Jones Industrial Average Up on High Fliers Verizon and Kraft

DJIA climbs, to the surprise of Wall Street.

MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) rose 91.65 points (.7%) to reach 13,149.11 at 2:25 p.m. EDT. Though there's no good evidence for why it's in the green, Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras did confab with German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier today. The news is neutral, with Merkel declaring that she prefers to wait for the judgment of a troika of experts before she decides whether or not to give Greece more time to pays its debts.

DJIA stocks are flying high. Verizon Communications (VZ) is up 2.06% to $43.08. Perhaps this unexpected flip upward has to do with its pricing hegemony, as Forbes calls it.

Kraft Foods (KFT) is up 1.15% to $41.75 per share, after it announced several days ago that it will undergo a split.

Pfizer (PFE) is up 1.16% to $24.00. Today the pharmaceutical revealed that its debtors have consented to relax some of their conditions.
