MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) is down 19.80 (.15%) to 13,071.04 as of 2:37 p.m. EDT. This plunge is due to fallout from weak US manufacturing data. The Institute for Supply Management's index dropped to 49.6-according to The Financial Times, this is the worst reading since July 2009, shortly after the recession.

It's difficult to find a midday stock that isn't in the red. Verizon (VZ) is up 1.66% to $43.62 after announcing the Samsung Galaxy Stellar, its robust new smartphone.

Caterpillar, Inc. (CAT) has sunk to 2.66%, or $82.71, again as a result of disappointing manufacturing numbers.

And after Microsoft's (MSFT) loss of ground in the ongoing smartphone war, it's fallen 1.46% to $30.29.
