MINYANVILLE ORIGINAL The Dow Jones Industrial Average (^DJI) is down 19.80 (.15%) to 13,071.04 as of 2:37 p.m. EDT. This plunge is due to fallout from weak US manufacturing data. The Institute for Supply Management’s index dropped to 49.6—according to The Financial Times, this is the worst reading since July 2009, shortly after the recession.

It’s difficult to find a midday stock that isn’t in the red. Verizon (VZ) is up 1.66% to $43.62 after announcing the Samsung Galaxy Stellar, its robust new smartphone.

Caterpillar, Inc. (CAT) has sunk to 2.66%, or $82.71, again as a result of disappointing manufacturing numbers.

And after Microsoft’s (MSFT) loss of ground in the ongoing smartphone war, it’s fallen 1.46% to $30.29.
