Dysfunctional Family Businesses: Hilton

It's not all Paris' fault.

Conrad left the bulk of his fortune to the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and almost nothing to his already-wealthy family. Furious, Barron spent the better part of the 1980s disputing the terms of his old man's will. He eventually won his case, earning over $200 million in disputed shares and over $300 million in a trust of which he would serve as executor.

His half-sister, Francesca, wasn't as lucky: She lost her case and received nothing.

But it was Barron's son, Richard, who brought about the worst blights on the Hilton name-- in the form of his children.

Son Richard Barron II was arrested in 2008 for DUI, driving with a fake ID, and hitting a gas station employee in the process. And the exploits of Richard's youngest child, Conrad III, was reported by a Gawker reader who spent an unfortunate flight behind the arrogant -- and flatulent -- Hilton heir.

And of course, there's Paris. Richard's eldest daughter's frequent indiscretions outweigh all her relative's indiscretions combined. Between a leaked sex tape, DUI arrest, abbreviated stint in prison and her endless quest for the spotlight , Paris has successfully earned the ire of just about anyone who's been subjected to her self-indulgence.

Richard's wife, Kathy, has even seen fit to cash in on her daughter's infamy with a lowbrow reality TV show of her own.

In the 1920s, it would have made sense to have a Hilton for a role model. Today, it's evidence of a serious character flaw.
