For millions of Americans, working out falls right in there between getting their teeth drilled and waiting in line at the DMV.
We make numerous excuses for putting it off -- lack of time, lack of money, and lack of desire. We just don’t want to do it! However, there’s a way to get fit no matter what your fiscal level is and I’m here to tell you how.
So get off the couch, get on your running shoes, and create your own program!
If you are b-r-o-k-e, have no fear! You can still join the ranks and creatively develop ways to stay in shape without spending cash.
If running is your jam, put on your Nike’s (NKE) and pound the pavement. If you can't commit to running on your own, try finding running groups in your area by searching meetup.com. Niketown also offers a free running group for people who enjoy a bit of company on the open road. (No, Nike brand sneakers aren’t required.)
Take the stairs as often as possible and walk from place to place. If you have a few dollars to spare, invest in fitness DVDs. Pick and choose what may work best for you whether it’s Pilates, yoga, or aerobics.
You can also check your local library for fitness DVDs. A sense of variety will help you stay motivated.
You may also find fitness videos from your cable service. Time Warner (TWC) and Comcast (CMCSA) offer cable packages that include several different exercise networks. These include belly dancing, cardio kickboxing, aerobics, and hip-hop. You can select whichever workout fits your mood.
If you need the energy-boosting benefits of an actual gym but aren’t committed to spending a lot of cash on a membership, consider GymTicket.com. Gym Ticket lets you search for all the free trials gyms in your area offer. If you live in an urban setting, you’re in luck. You’ll have a multitude of gyms to hop around from as your trials expire. Gym Ticket boasts more than 20,000 gyms in its database.
