In case you were left wondering why buses seemed a little more crowded than usual Wednesday, it was Earth Day, and Americans were celebrating from coast to coast. Even well-known corporations got in on the act: Jones Soda (JSDA) ran its Seattle headquarters entirely on pedal power and Hewlett-Packard (HPQ) organized a web-based recycling service to encourage computer owners to trade in their equipment.

And those are just two high-profile examples.
