Economic Snapshot: What Do Americans Want Included in the Bailout?

Our unscientific poll.

Whatever you call it -- bailout bill, rescue plan -- getting it through both houses of Congress has proven quite the odyssey. And it's not for lack of trying.

President Bush addressed the nation, warning that failure to pass the legislation would result in a "long and painful recession."

John McCain suspended his campaign so he could rush to Washington and engineer a compromise that never came.

Barack Obama spent time on the Senate floor for the first time in a very, very long time.

Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson got down on bended knee and pleaded with Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi.

Yet for all this doomsday posturing, a group of Congressmen on both sides of the aisle voted it down, presumably because their constituents are mad as hell and not going to take it anymore (and because Election Day is a month away).

On the eve of another attempt to get the bill passed and with a generally disapproving public still not on board, Minyanville asks, What do Americans want included in the bailout?
