Timing, as they say, is everything. United Airlines (UAL) didn't get the memo.

While airlines like American (AA) and Delta (DAL) are canceling flights like safety inspections are going out of style, United's taking a different approach to disenfranchising travelers.

It's raising ticket prices. Again.

Last month's fare hike was such a resounding success, United's doing it again, jacking up the cost of flying anywhere from $4 to $30. The company says record high oil prices are squeezing margins and forcing the increases.

Not only are consumers paying record gas prices on the ground, they're being asked to spot United for fuel costs when they fly. This as basic expectations of air travel -- meals at meal time, safety and on-time departures -- continue to adjust downward. There's a lot of pressure on the Americn wallet and precious little to show for it.
