In my opinion, the airplane maker has gotten a bum rap lately.
Some have been whining about the Dreamliner problems, and there's a clear concern that the not-so-hot near-term domestic economic outlook could weigh heavily on these guys.
But investors here need to be focused on the longer-term. I can’t think of a better way to play the future demand for aircraft (and air travel, for that matter) than on this stalwart. Besides that, here’s what else grabs my attention:
1. It seems upbeat. Take a gander at the following article from this morning. It sports a sweet little dividend.
2. Don’t forget that in addition to the planes we travel on, it makes other wickedly neat stuff that’ll make our mortal enemies cry for mothers. I remain a huge longer-term believer in this business, too.
3. We’re at just over 11 times the current-year estimate for Pete’s sake. That’s cheap.
Six Flags:Apparently, six flags are not more fun. Over the weekend, it was reported that the well-known theme park filed for bankruptcy.
Some thoughts:
1. I’m not expecting this event to have too much of an impact on other operators as the parks will remain open while this is hashed out. Immediately assuming this is a big boon for other players like Cedar Fair (FUN), Great Wolf Resorts (WOLF), or Disney (DIS) would be a mistake.
2. Even if it comes out of bankruptcy down the line, I think I’d be reluctant to get involved unless some things change. Its parks haven't always attracted the best clientele; it's always seemed more like a hangout for rowdy kids than a family destination. Additionally, the admission fees seem ridiculous given the number of rides you're able to get on in one afternoon. These are big turn-offs for many would-be park goers.
Stay tuned.
Have a great day!
