Trick or 50 bp Cut?
- Gotta hand it to Our Chairman, great costume.
- Wait a sec, that's actually not a disguise, we're just used to seeing him with his shirt on.
- Calculated Risk with a pre-game analysis.
- The Mess That Greenspan Made on gold in The Big Ben Age.
- Do we over or under rate the Fed? Aleph Blog sees a bit of both.
GDP and You
- Ginormous growth in the economy or not? Lots of opinions on the GDP from...
- The Bondad Blog.
- Paper Economy.
- The Big Picture.
- The Daily Reckoning.
Blast From the Past
- Hey, another day, another "overheated China" call, as VIX and More notes.
- "I have no doubt that Greenspan is correct on this count, but then again the Chinese markets could continue to go parabolic up to and beyond the Beijing Olympics, which means at least another 9 ½ months."
- I totally agree, and I would add Sir Alan said the exact same thing in May, and the FXI was 115 then. It's 215 now.
- He will catch the top at some point and get lauded for it: kind of silly, to say the least.
Let's See...
A 50 bp cut, times $32 milion per year for 8 years, minus agent take, minus "entertainment" costs at scores, minus new rock for Mrs. A-Rod, equals lots of coin.
- So how great would it be if ten minutes before the Fed announcement, Scott Boras passes around some A-Rod press release? Though, if I'm Bernanke, I'm fuming that Kudlow and Liesman and Buck and McCarver are ignoring me at my big moment.
- MLB is incidentally not too pleased with the 8th inning "news flash" the other night.
- "There was no reason to make an announcement.....other than to try to put his selfish interests and that of one individual player above the overall good of the game."
- So where's he going?
- Darren Rovell has the Giants #1.
- Baseball Prospectus plays a little game of A-Rod Survivor and reverse-ranks all the teams. Hint: If you are a D-Rays or Royals fan, buy up those replica jerseys on spec.
- Most interesting possibility (and one I haven't seen anywhere else)? "4. Phillies – Possible mystery team? Their third base situation in 2007 was one of the biggest disasters in baseball, they have more money than they pretend to have, they’re right on the playoff bubble, and there’s some aesthetic appeal to fielding a world-class infield of Rodriguez, Rollins, Utley and Howard. Perhaps the best fit in baseball on paper."
- They should do it if for no other reason than to say they'd have far and away the best inflield in history, with (probably) both reigning MVP's in A-Rod and Rollins, and a 50 homer guy in Howard. And Utley is the best of all of them when you factor in how (relatively) little money he makes, his age, and how much better he is than the next 2b in baseball.
